Review:
The Ultimate Hoosier Hoops Trivia Challenge Basketball is truly the American game, and nowhere is it played with more passion than in the hoops-crazy state of Indiana. Basketball is a state of mind and way of life in Hoosier-land. Did you know the first game ever played outside of its Massachusetts birthplace took place in a Crawfordsville, Indiana YMCA in 1893? Indiana has produced more great basketball legends per capita than any state, from the game's greatest coach John Wooden to arguably the best all-around players ever in Oscar Robertson and Larry Bird. Indiana University is also one of only two schools to win NCAA titles in four different decades.
Now adding to the state's considerable hoop hysteria is The Ultimate Hoosier Hoops Trivia Challenge, which tests fan knowledge of Indiana basketball on all levels (high school, college and pro) from Bird to Damon Bailey, Rick Mount to Reggie Miller, Wooden to Glenn Robinson, Branch McCracken to Bob Knight, Ward Lambert to Gene Keady, Bobby Plump to Jay Edwards, Clyde Lovellette to Kent Benson, Mel Daniels to Rik Smits, ISU to ND and Evansville with much more.
The book is divided into 20 simulated basketball games with 20 questions overall. Each game is divided into two halves of 20 multiple choice questions covering all aspects of Hoosier hysteria. Every half is devoted to a specific Indiana basketball topic like Hoosier Head Honchos, Buzzer Beaters, Hoosier Deadeyes, The State vs. Indiana, Olympian Hoosiers, Hoosiers in the Pros, Hoosier Hometowns, Purdue, Notre Dame, Pacer Power and many more.
Each half consists of 20 questions-four layup/dunks, four free throws, eight jump shots and four three-pointers. The layup/dunks are the easiest type of question/shot (as in real basketball) and have just two answer choices. The free throws are a little harder with three options, while the jumpers are even harder with four choices. The three-pointers, as in actual hoops, are the most difficult, with five choices. As in real hoops, two points are awarded for layup/ dunk and jump shot questions answered correctly, one point for free throws and three for each three-point question gotten right. In addition, an overtime fill in the blank question is given at the end of each game. Points are accumulated at the end of every game and assessed against an opponent or a score rating scale. The game can thus be played alone or one on one.Take this shortened preview sample quiz: (answers below, 16 points possible)
