Review:
Self-doubting Sarah Fuller travels to Hawai‘i in search of
scholarly information regarding Pele and volcano worship on the islands.
While an undergrad student of the Social Sciences she read several books
in literary Existentialism that made her wonder, what exactly did happen to
Moses on the mountain? Initiating
an extracurricular line of research she stumbled upon what she believed to be
the exact moment when the Near Eastern wars began some 3500-4000 years ago
during the Biblical Exodus. However,
to complete her theory she needed information concerning the psychology of
individuals who believe that gods can live in volcanoes, thus the trip to
Hawai‘i. On the plane she meets
Jack Halemakani, native Hawaiian and activist working to assist his people
regain their cultural identity. His
kindness baffles her from the start and sets up her internal struggle to let go
of the false belief that the only good she can permit into her life is that
which she creates for herself.
This mystical, magical narrative takes the reader deep into
religious, philosophical and psychological puzzles. Twixt the Twain is a
novel for the spiritually alternative believer who seeks an unconventional
perspective on non-discriminate acceptance, understanding, and love.
