Does one ever leave the cocoon of a first, happy, committed, long, and true love? The question begs an answer for Simon and all those in Simon's shoes. "Go with the flow," decided Simon. Therein may lie the answer. Half of us who find this true love will lose it, when one spouse dies. For life is a continuum and each life has an end.
While life is safe and secure, living in a happy cocoon, there is always the gnawing reality that life is not forever-and the gnawing question is: What then?
Simon tried to start life anew, to leave the cocoon, which he did. Yet the leaving was far incomplete, for there was always his Lydia.
Perhaps he and millions like him will eventually succeed and find love, happiness, and whatever it is that Simon sought. The tale does not end here, for life is a continuum for everyone...'til it finally ends.
