Review:

Reality Religion - Isn't that an oxymoron?

Not at all, if the root meaning of religion is understood. The root of the word "religion" is ligament - that is connection or relationship. Specifically, one's religion consists of the unique relationships of that individual to his or her own identity, to others, and to the larger whole - earth, universe, or what traditional religions have called God. And what should one base these relationships on in this day and age if not reality?

This modest-sized book revives the root concept of religion and shows that the knowledge possessed by well-informed Americans can be the bedrock of individual and public morality. The book looks at today's confused morality, posits a morality for Americans in the 21st century, and suggests guide lines for institutionalizing it.

For every organism, life is about developing unique, effective relationships with its respective environment. For humans, the scope of personal religion is an ever growing sphere of interactions. An infant's first relationship is to the source of its nourishment and nurturing. >From the infant stage on, humans must meet the challenges of constantly changing life conditions. Traditional religions constrain its adherents to a one-size-fits-all, cast-in-ancient stone set of moral dictates with which to meet these challenges. Reality Religion provides the individual with guidance for developing a morality uniquely appropriate to him - or herself based on an ever-growing body of valid, public knowledge.

America is symptomatic of a society that has lost, without replacement, its traditional basis of morality. Reality Religion can serve as an antidote to this condition. Serious readers will find the paradigm presented enlightening, sobering, demanding, and finally manifestly workable.
