Review:

FREEDOM'S LIGHT: QUOTATIONS FROM HISTORY'S CHAMPIONS OF FREEDOM, by Alan Cook, features 38 people who were among the most influential in terms of their support of individual liberty.

Quotations are on subjects ranging from freedom of speech, press, religion and the right to own property, to slavery and suffrage. There are also comments on tyranny and the power of governments, taxation, warfare and the responsibilities that go with freedom--to protect it and not to abuse it. For each Champion a poetic biography is supplied by the author. Additional poems include "Berlin Wall" and "The Soul of Liberty."

The Champions range in time from Solon and Aristotle in ancient Greece to Martin Luther King and Milton Friedman. The most recent quotations are from Zlata Filipovic, who kept a diary in war-torn Sarajevo and wrote poignantly about the senselessness of war and hate.

The most influential members of the founding fathers of the United States of America are included, as well as European philosophers and thinkers who inspired many of the ideas that were written into the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights.

This book is indispensable as a reference work for anyone who cares about individual liberty, as well as a learning tool for children who must carry on our heritage of freedom.

Hans F. Sennholz, President of the Foundation for Economic Education, says, "'Freedom's Light' is a fascinating collection of eloquent statements on freedom. It will increase the light's illuminative powers for which we thank you."

Alan Cook is a writer living in Southern California. He is a prize-winning poet and has been published in many periodicals and anthologies. His other book, "The Saga of Bill the Hermit" is a narrative poem with equal parts comedy, romance and action.
