Those who have few, if any, memories of childhood may have been victims of psychological abuse. Claimed to be the most damaging of all abuses, psychological abuse is hard to pin down. What is it? It's not the same for every child or every situation. In addition, most children subjected to it, having nothing else to judge by, come to accept the abuse as 'normal' treatment. Even so, the abuse is so painful they cannot bear it, and they wipe it completely from memory. As psychological abuse, difficult to grasp at any time, is doubly so for adults who have, themselves, been abused as children, this book is must reading for every parent. And it will strike a familiar chord with all those whose psyche has been damaged. The author, too, felt lost and alone, hurt and afraid. It is her hope that they, knowing they are not alone, will find hope and inspiration in it, and, as she was led to deeper insights and profound breakthroughs, that they will find them, too.

Unlike most other books of its genre, this is a very intriguing book. Its perspective is different from other popular, mass market books on MPD that all seem to tell the same story. This one stands out by virtue of belonging more to the genealogical-autobiographical genre than those merely documenting dysfunctionality. It's a powerful and moving story and a very good read.
