Review:

Earl Pasbach's poems celebrate life. A generous sampling of his verse reflects his joy in pleasures past, recaptured with wistful nostalgia. They are vivid, dynamic, and lyrical, expressed in a variety of natural forms, rhymed and unrhymed, and in effective images.

Several of Pasbach's poems treat nature and the seasons lovingly, lyrically, and philosophically, such as "Crystal Lake," which portrays life's twists and turns. To give us a perspective on our vain, mundane achievements, the poet gets away from earth awhile in "A Feather Wafting in the Air." This collection abounds in lyrical enthusiasm--e.g., for a charming "little sprite" named Katie" and for a "Fifth Grade Girl." Wistfully imagined in "Elena" is a reunion with a beloved: For the spirit is of things immortal reigning over dark boulder and bone

Altogether this collection rewards the reader.

ISLAND SONG

High above the atoll strand
the bristled curlew flies
winging stride the ocean breeze
across the evening tides
to deep within a dark lagoon
she halts her easy flight
then crying out a haunting cal
awaits the coming night
as though the setting sun
displayed in ruby red
would now be gone forever
nevermore to raise its head
speak and tell us of your angst
of your plaintive call forlorn
as the night enfolds her darkness
and you call out to the dawn.
