Review:
Twelve-year-old Sarina's "secret" is a ladybug, Veda, implanted with an atom-size microchip and a laser synthesizer which enable her to talk and utilize information received through the computer. This futuristic children's novel, for ages 9-13, is loaded with adventures that occur in the world of 2012, where many intriguing environmental and societal developments have taken hold since the turn of the century. Fortunately, Sarina keeps a daily journal of her activities, which include foiling a robbery and uncovering kidnappers...all with Veda's help, of course. Sarina's Secret is entertaining, educational--and extremely thought-provoking; it's a look at a future we might hope will be.
Marian R. Applegate is the author of Three Spies on the Move, a children's mystery novel. A retired teacher, she lives in California with her husband, Dale, and enjoys golf, bicycling, hiking and R.V. traveling when she's not writing--as well as family get-togethers with her five children and five grandchildren.
