Review:
As a retired Army "Mustang" (Enlisted, Warrant Officer, Commissioned Officer, finally reaching the rank of Major) having served 21 years of active duty and working for the Department of the Army in various capacities for another 13 years, I have had the opportunity aplenty to see and hear of soldiers' lives and their tales. CSM Glenn H. Towe (Ret.) has done and seen it all when it comes to soldiering and in his book, Tour of Duty, has done a superb job in an entertaining, educational, and interesting way of telling it like it was. He is one of a very few who experienced being in the military during WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He tells the story of his life clearly and from the heart. The reader will understand the compassion and emotion the author felt in times of sadness and fear and laugh out loud at some of his captivating homespun tales. Those who have served in the military will find themselves nodding in agreement at some passages in the book. To others it will describe what it was like to start at the bottom of the military pecking order and work to the top of the enlisted rank structure. CSM Towe (Ret.) gave America a life of integrity, honor, and bravery. God bless him.
– Major Joseph H. Rawl, U.S. Army (Ret.)
