One morning, Brian asked me ten times in twenty minutes when he was going to a birthday party. The first nine times I answered with the best description I could give, but the tenth time, I said, "Brian, the party is tomorrow, which is Wednesday. Now, you
will have to believe me and don't ask me that again."
Brian looked at me and asked, "Where is Wednesday, inside or out? I'll believe you when you show it to me."
His question made me realize that my explanations had meant nothing to him. He had no understanding of where he was in time, just as earlier he had not known where he was in space.
